Fun, flying weekend visit to Elgin in Moray, Scotland. Stops included Against the Grain, a self-described “taproom beer emporium” in the town of about 23,000 people, established in 2018. Lovely space, literally humming on a late Saturday afternoon in May — good thing we booked a seat. Attractive range of beers on offer, helpfully displayed on a screen in the back. It’s always a good sign when you see a bunch of taps; lots of choice.
My favourite beer of the day: 1814 Spey Valley Lager, from the Spey Valley Brewery in Mulben, a nearby hamlet located near the town of Keith, which like Elgin is in Moray, which borders the council areas of Aberdeen and Highlands. With a very strong second place going to the Brugse Zot Blond brewed in Bruges.
The Against the Grain visit was made even better by one of the patrons having with them a super sweet Saluki/lurcher cross.
