Pints at Mennie’s

Mike, bartender at the Speedwell pub in Dundee, photographed in April 2025.

Here’s to fabulous pubs, and especially ones with ton of character, an excellent and wide-ranging selection of beers on draught and in the can, including an ever-rotating selection of cask ales, set in premises that feel like a fantastic(al) extension of one’s own living room.

Pictured here: Mike, bartender at the Speedwell (156–157 Perth Road, Dundee), built in 1903 for one James Speed, but also known as Mennie’s for the family that ran it for more than half a century. Mrs. Mennie was known to take zero nonsense.
